Shaykh Tameem Ahmadi

Shaykh Tameem Ahmadi (may Allah preserve him) is a Bay Area native and a Newark Memorial High School graduate. After initially studying at San Francisco State University, he pursued the higher calling of sacred knowledge. In the ensuing years, Shaykh Tameem engaged in a rigorous curriculum of religious knowledge, studying under some of the foremost scholars of North America, Africa, and South Asia.

Shaykh Tameem completed his advanced degree studies, which surpasses the equivalent of a master’s degree, and received teaching licenses (ijazaat) in the Islamic sciences. These sciences include jurisprudence (fiqh), prophetic teachings (hadith), creed (aqidah), exegesis (tafsir), Islamic sciences (usul), Arabic grammar, spirituality, and more. In addition, he received a license to teach (ijazah) with isnad (authentic, unbroken chain of narration) in numerous books of prophetic teachings, including the sihhah sittah, the six most authentic collections of hadith. Some illustrious scholars from whom he attained ijazah of hadith include Mufti Taqi Usmani and Maulana Salimullah Khan.

After completing the distinguished dars nizami curriculum and receiving the shahadah alimiyya (recognition of Islamic scholarship), Shaykh Tameem immersed himself in the study of the Islamic spiritual sciences of the heart. This immersion was under the private tutelage of one of the most honorable spiritual masters of our time, focusing on the subject of purification of the heart (tazkiyah and tarbiyah). Being granted the mantle of authorization to teach and transmit, he returned to the Bay Area under the counsel of his teacher.

Since his return to the Bay Area, Shaykh Tameem has dedicated himself to teaching and benefiting the community with what he had mastered abroad. Shaykh Tameem currently teaches tafsir, hadith, fiqh, aqidah, tazkiya, and Arabic grammar classes. He is a regular lecturer at numerous mosques and spiritual circles (halaqahs) throughout Northern California. He has translated many booklets and articles and continues to strive in literary efforts.

The respected Shaykh currently heads many educational efforts and is a counselor and mentor for religious seekers of all ages, teaching both the dedicated student of knowledge and the casual learner. He is fluent in Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, and English.

He currently resides in Union City, CA, with his family.

Shaykh Hashim Ahmad

A former musician by profession, he grew up in Los Angeles, CA and spent his teenage years there during the 1960’s in pursuit of his musical career. During the same era the urge to acquire spiritual development and perfection continued to become more and more predominant until he realized that therein alone lay the secret of true success for man. He therefore left America in 1970 in pursuit of the true and pure path towards spiritual development and the real meaning and way of life as prescribed by the Creator of the universe in its original form. After extensive travel and search he finally accepted Islam in Ethiopia in 1971.

He eventually took admission at the Jami’ah Umm al-Qura in Makkah Mukarramah where he completed a degree from the Faculty of Da’wah wa Usul al-Din with specialization in the Sciences of Quran and Hadith. He thereafter was deputed by Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Bin Baz, then Chief Mufti of Saudi Arabia, as a teacher at Jami’at al-‘Ulum al-Islamiyyah, Binnori Town, Karachi.

He served at the Jami’at al-‘Ulum al-Islamiyyah teaching various Islamic subjects in the Arabic medium from 1985-1992. From 1992 onward he taught at Madrasah ‘A’ishah Siddiqah for girls in Karachi, and later at one of its branches, Madrasah Maryam.

In 1997, he began to develop a company known as Al Khair Creative Quality Ware, based on Islamic and professional excellence which specializes in “beneficial products aligned with a healthy, meaningful lifestyle”. The Al Khair business model has evolved into an entire Islamic business system known as the Ubudiyyah Business Model. Shaykh Hashim headed a team of scholars and professionals who are involved in the research and development of the model and devotes a large portion of his time in further developing, presenting and sharing the UBM Model to the business community and others.

Presently, Shaykh Hashim serves as the Religious Director at Darul Falah in Tustin, CA, Seminary Instructor at the Institute of Knowledge, Senior Instructor at Darul Ulum al-Ashrafiyya, and continues presenting lectures and workshops on Promoting a ‘Healthy Meaningful Lifestyle’. Mawlana Abdullah Rashid

Born and raised in Northern California, Mawlana Abdullah Rashid completed the memorization of the Quran at the Islamic Center of Fremont. Given the golden opportunity to immediately begin the advanced Islamic studies (alim) course after that, he studied basic Islamic sciences in the Bay Area, from Arabic and exegesis to advanced books in jurisprudence and prophetic teachings. Mawlana Abdullah studied under illustrious scholars such as Shaykh Hashim Ahmad, Mawlana Tameem Ahmadi, Mufti Abdullah Nana, Mufti Nawaz Khan, and others during these six years. Additionally, he concurrently completed an associate’s degree in English literature.

Having received this excellent foundation in the Islamic sciences, he completed his studies overseas at Darul Uloom Karachi, the premier Islamic institution in Pakistan. Mawlana Abdullah had the honor of studying closely with more than a dozen world-renowned scholars, principally Mufti Taqi and Mufti Rafi Usmani. After earning the Alimiyyah degree, equivalent to a master’s degree in Islamic studies, he returned to the Bay Area.

Mawlana Abdullah attained his bachelors degree in Biology with a minor in Professional and Technical writing from San Jose State in 2023.

Mawlana Jabir Tarin

Mawlana Jabir Tarin is a registered associate marriage and family therapist. In his mental wellness work with Wasilah Connections, Mawlana Jabir has experience providing individual, premarital, and marital counseling to Muslim individuals and couples. Through the Muslim Mental Health Initiative program, he also serves as a therapist and spiritual and religious leader, providing weekly counseling consultations and “Ummah Talks” to students at the University of California, Berkeley. Mawlana Jabir’s professional interests include providing mental well-being and spiritual direction to the City of Fremont, integrating Islamic spirituality with mental wellness, and teaching Islamic theology to young adults and college students.

Mawlana (Abu Muhammed) Kawsar Hossain

Mawlana Abu Muhammad Kawsar Hossain first became interested in studying the sacred Islamic sciences at the University of California, Davis. During that time, he also became concerned about the plight of incarcerated Muslims, leading him to spend 10 years serving as a Muslim chaplain at Folsom and San Quentin State Prisons.

He recently completed his Islamic studies program at this seminary, Dārul-‘Ulūm al-Ashrafiyya at Masjid al-Huda in Union City, CA. Currently, he serves as an editor for Nur Publications, a publishing house of traditional Islamic texts.

Mawlana Shafiullah Barekzai

Moulana Shafiullah has been serving the East Bay Muslim community for over a decade. He started as a Quran teacher in a humble setting with just a handful of students. Today, between daily after-school Islamic education (maktab), after-school Quran memorization (hifdh), and weekly Islamic Studies classes, he serves more than 300 students along with numerous part-time adult and private class attendees.

Seeing a need for young, approachable, and relatable scholars to guide the youth, he studied the higher Islamic sciences, which he completed concurrent to his instruction and outreach among the community. He has numerous teaching licenses (ijazahs) in Quran recitation, Quranic pronunciation and articulation (tajwid), and the higher Islamic sciences from scholars such as Shaykh Muhammad Arif, Shaikh Hashim Ahmad, and others.

He currently serves as the Imam and head instructor for the after-school maktab and hifdh programs at Masjid al Huda in Union City, CA.

Mawlana Ahmed Attarwala

Mawlana Ahmed was born in Gujarat, India and began memorizing the Quran (hifdh) at nine years old. His hifdh was cut short upon moving to the U.S. in 2002. In the U.S., he restarted his memorization alongside his secular education up until high school. Following graduation, he dedicated a year to complete his memorization of the noble Quran fully. After that, Mawlana Ahmed embarked on a journey to study the advanced Islamic sciences in-depth, from which he graduated with a master’s degree. Alongside his religious studies, he obtained an associate’s degree in accounting and business from Ohlone College. He currently serves as a local Imam, teacher, and khateeb, serving the Muslim community in the East Bay.

Mawlana Sulaimon Pasoon

Born in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan, Mawlana Sulaimon Pasoon immigrated to the U.S. in 2009 at 13 years old. He is a hafidh, having finished memorizing the Quran early on as a student at Dārul-‘Ulūm al-Ashrafiyya. He completed the full-time alimiyyah program in 2021, having studied under and reaped the excellent company of the esteemed scholars, including Shaykh Hashim Ahmad, Shaykh Tameem Ahmadi, and Mufti Abdullah Nana. For over five years, he has been leading supplemental night prayers (Taraweeh) in the holy month of Ramadan in the local East Bay Muslim community, including the past four years at Masjid Muhajireen in Hayward, CA. In addition, he has been teaching youth and adult Islamic and Arabic classes for six years and has served as a part-time Imam at East Bay mosques in Livermore, Fremont, and other localities, over the past five years.

Mawlana Sulaimon completed his bachelor’s degree in Physiology from San Jose State University while simultaneously studying at the seminary. In addition to his teaching and scholastic efforts, Mawlana Sulaimon is the co-founder of the 1st Muslim Rehab Center, serving Muslims going through addiction, located in Hayward under the name of Tranquility Rehab.
